Visitors to the Park Plaza – a design-led hotel close to Victoria station – are greeted by a wacky set of sculptures including upright pairs of stuffed jeans. After that, the rather nondescript in-house restaurant is something of a let down. There’s nothing wrong with the smart leather chairs & the beechwood tables: you just might expect a few more original & arty touches. It’s equally hard to criticise the food, the open kitchen rustling up mainstream hotel-restaurant fare while taking note of the seasons. Spring could see a starter of asparagus, Jersey royals & quail’s egg salad followed by braised lamb shank. The attached cocktail bar is a more interesting space, with trendy flower prints & modish leather couches.
